I'm writing a thriller set in the exciting world of Canadian politics.

(Now that's not something you hear often.)

It's a little unfamiliar to me. The topic of the day on the Conservative Party's website is how we need better product labelling.

I'm way too familiar with leftie American political websites like Huffington Post, Daily Kos, FiveThirtyEight. Crafty readers: what are the best rightie Canadian political websites? (And by best: intelligent, thoughtful, not mindlessly repeating talking points.)

Down here in Canada's boots (figured you guys are tired of being called "America's Hat", so I'm trying this on for size) I don't know nothin' 'bout no Canadian politics, but a blogger I really like does: Mightygodking.

He's got a set of links to Canadian political sites that might not suck.

Rabble.ca is a good site for the progressive/left end of the spectrum.

More people are reading Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn these days than almost any other righty blogs. The only thing is the subject matter does skew towards the topic of the day most of the time (free speech, "human rights" councils etc.) Steyn is on a bit of a hiatus, but his is the best writing on either side of the political spectrum when he is on. And even though he is writing for publications world wide...there are regular columns on Canadian politics.

...also Ezra is always uncovering interesting historical facts...like his recent post on how CSIS helped to build up on of the leading neo-nazi orgs in Canada in the 80s. I'm some of his stuff would be good fodder for a political thriller.

I can't help you out with Canadian sites and I mostly go to the American sites you already mentioned, but in my blog-reading I stumbled across The American Conservative.

They take note of liberal sites but generally debate the merits, not reflexive right-wing talking points. I'd say they are a fairly balanced conservative blog. The main reason I read them is that it's the only conservative blog I know of that argues against the war in Iraq and American imperial objectives as a whole, which makes them true conservatives.

Hope that helps.

This is a progressive Canadian blog, but there's a lengthy blog roll that includes, I believe, some conservative options. If nothing else, I'm pretty sure the author would point you in the right direction if you asked.

Another idea for material would be to ATIP all the briefing notes sent to a Minister of your choice during the last year. It'll cost you 5 bucks.
